WOLF: Niklas Stålvind

Kategori: Allmänt

Swedish heavy metal masters WOLF strike back with their 8th studio album “Feeding The Machine” that offers intense and addictive headbanger anthems covering the straight-up speedy attack (‘Shoot To Kill’), the infectious hooks (‘Midnight Hour’), the darkly melodic (‘The Cold Emptiness’), and galloping riff-fests (‘Feeding The Machine’)! Featuring a gloriously morbid artwork by the legendary Thomas Holm (Mercyful Fate, King Diamond), WOLF know how to deliver the goods after letting fans wait for a new opus since “Devil Seed” in 2014. Recorded at SolnaSound (guitarist Simon’s own studio), mixed and mastered by Fredrik Nordström at Studio Fredman (At The Gates, In Flames, Arch Enemy), “Feeding The Machine” is a bit of a fresh start for WOLF as vocalist Niklas Stålvind and guitarist Simon Johansson now have been joined by Pontus Egberg (King Diamond) on bass and drummer Johan Koleberg (ex-Therion, ex-Lion’s Share) to bring an extra dose of reinvigorated energy and focus to the table.
WOLF was originally formed back in 1995 and belongs to the earliest bands resurrecting and rejuvenating a traditional heavy metal sound during the 90’s when ignorant folks pronounced heavy metal dead. Inspired by the likes of Iron Maiden, Metal Church, the NWOBHM, Mercyful Fate/King Diamond, Judas Priest, and classic speed metal from Canada to Germany, WOLF laid down the groundwork for what became a triumphant return of proper 80’s influenced metal in the following years over the course of seven records. Especially in recent years, bands like Night Demon, Enforcer, Ram, Eternal Champion, Visigoth, Traveler, Haunt and many more further solidified what is an irrevocable fact: You cannot kill what has been forged in steel!

So here comes an  WOLFish interview with Niklas Stålvind for both  SwedenMetal and Voodoo Queen Magazine:

Hello Niklas! Hope you are doing alright in this weird situation..

What will be first thing you will do after this "lockdown" is over?

- Actually, I live my life the pretty much the same way as before the lockdown. I was already living isolated and washed my hands. The only difference is that I will play live again and I can’t wait!

What is the stupidest question you have got from a journalist?

- Actually, the stupid questions are quite rare.

I have several favorites on the new WOLF album - "Feeding The Machine"... What Inspired you guys the most to do this album?

- I don’t know what inspired the other members, so I can only speak for myself here... The evil in the world around me inspired my song writing and also some things from my past that I needed to get through and get out of my chest.

The WOLF songs " Nocturnal Rites" and "Guillotine" makes me think of another swedish bands.. Did you had that in mind when those songs were written?

- No, but it’s quite funny. Guillotine and Nocturnal Rites share some members also. Great guys.

In 2012 The German metalband VARG did a liveshow in Falun as I recall.. What is your Opinion of the band VARG? (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuRssQhxKjE)

- Never heard it before. Great name! I think they should do a song in Swedish. In a German accent off course.

Would you consider join the line-up at Wolfzeit-festival if you got the chance?

- Absolutely. We’re up for any festival.

I Think I remember the First time  I saw WOLF live... It must have been in Boden (Sweden) 2008.. What is the major change in the band´s  history since then?

- The only major changes are the band members. WOLF has still continued with the same vision since we started back in 1995. Off course we have developed as a band and the music and lyrics go a bit deeper now, but in essence it’s still the same thing we’re doing. It’s all about the songs.

For a while you did some drawings that I bought from you.. Now Carl Stjärnlöw in Diabolical seems to have picked up the brush when you left off.. Have you noticed his work..If so.. what you Think?

- I haven’t seen it, no. But I wish him the best with it. Making art in any form is good for the soul.

Final words?

- ”Farewell, cruel world”! will be my final words... or perhaps ”Thank you - and good night!”

Thanx for this interview Niklas!
